This position is a member of the Educational Leadership management team starting late Spring/early Summer 2018

 

 

The International School located in downtown beautiful Portland Oregon, provides a warm, multicultural environment where children are fully immersed in Spanish, Japanese or Chinese from Preschool through 5th grade.  We are Portland’s first International Baccalaureate elementary school.  Our urban school was founded in 1990, and today educates over 430 students.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated full-time PYP (Primary Years Programme) Coordinator to join our creative educational team to help make a difference in the lives of our children and families, and to bring strong knowledge of PYP and skill sets to the faculty team!

General Summary

 

As a full time 12 month position the, PYP coordinator needs to understand and promote the beliefs and values reflected in the IB philosophy and facilitate their incorporation into the school curriculum. The PYP coordinator shares the responsibility for pedagogical leadership with the Educational Leadership Team. The PYP coordinator makes recommendations for resources in support of the PYP program and helps create systems to inventory resources. The PYP coordinator works with faculty and staff to develop and implement the written, taught and the assessed curriculum.

 

Core Duties:

 

  • The PYP coordinator shares the responsibility for pedagogical leadership with the Educational Leadership Team.
  • The PYP coordinator makes recommendations for resources in support of the PYP program and helps create systems to inventory resources.
  •  The PYP coordinator works with faculty and staff to develop and implement the written, taught and the assessed curriculum.

Other

  • Collaborate with the Student Support Services Coordinator in conjunction with other members of the Student Support Services group
  • Organize and lead student assemblies
  • In addition to the above, the PYP Coordinator/Instructional Coach, will undertake such other duties as are assigned by the Head of School

  • Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate information in the most efficient manner possible
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, orally and in writing, with a broad range of internal and external constituents
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse pool of personalities
  • Comfortable proactively learning new technology and suggesting technology related solutions.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Google Suite (gmail, google docs, google calendar)
  • Advanced skills utilizing online database software. Specific experience using Achieve is a plus.

 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • During peak activity periods, this position may be requested to work in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week.
  • Capable of quickly traveling to multiple locations on school campus including up and down hills, lifting or otherwise carrying 40 pounds, traveling up/down flights of stairs, standing and sitting for long durations, typing for continuous hours on a computer keyboard, and reading information on a computer screen.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to attend off site events.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years experience as a curriculum or PYPCoordinator or a combination of teaching experience and PYP training and knowledge, preferably at a non-profit or an educational institution
  • Communicate fluently in written and spoken English 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual: Communicate fluently in written and spoken English and any of the languages taught at the school: Spanish, Japanese or Chinese.
  • Comfortable in an international community with experience living and/or traveling overseas and studying other languages.
  • Experience as an instructional coach
  • Event planning experience
  • Experience with graphic design/publications software (Adobe suite)

Salary

  • Compensation will be commensurate based on PYP experience in the IB programme.
