Job Description

 

Title: Enrichment Teacher

Department: Global Kids Extended-day Program

Reports to: Global Kids Program Manager

Status: Non-exempt (hourly)

Wage: $18+

Dates:

  • Regular Schedule: Regular School Days August 28- June 12, 2019. See Global Kids Program Calendar for details.
    • Spring Term dates: March 11- June 12, 2019
  • Alternative Schedule: Year round during school breaks, early dismissal days, and no-school days that are not holidays, pending minimum enrollments are met. See Global Kids Program Calendar for details.

Hours:

  • Regular Schedule: Enrichment Class hours are offered on a weekly basis:
    • Early Childhood: 3:45-4:15pm daily plus 0.5 hours prep time
    • School Age: 3:45-4:30pm daily plus 0.75 hours prep time
    • Enrichment Teachers may teach 1 or more classes per week. Each class will meet one day per week for the duration of the term.
  • Alternative Schedule: Hours on non-school days when program is open will be determined by Global Kids Program Manager. These include individual days during the school year and full weeks during school and summer breaks. A typical full day of program could include 1-3 enrichment classes, depending on student enrollment.

 

General Summary

A part-time seasonal position reporting to the Global Kids Program Manager, Enrichment Teachers provide fun, active additions to this dynamic Extended-day Program.  Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to planning and implementing curriculum and submitting lesson plans; teaching enrichment classes; supervising children and assuring their safety; and communicating with Program Coordinator, Program Manager, and other Global Kids and TIS staff.

 

Essential Functions

Curriculum Planning & Teaching

  • Plan and lead enrichment class activities in accordance with the guidelines set by The International School Global Kids Program
  • Provide a fun, engaging and educational environment
  • Supervise and manage the safety of all children while they attend enrichment classes
  • Maintain an organized, safe and clean learning environment
  • Submit detailed lesson plans and supply requests by the stated deadlines

 

Supervising Students

  • Assume responsibility for knowing the location of all students under teacher’s charge during the periods in which the teacher is assigned to provide supervision and/or instruction
  • Provide a safe environment for all students under one’s charge and notify the Program Manager or Program Coordinator when unsafe conditions exist
  • Understand, follow and implement the rules and regulations of the Oregon Office of Child Care pertaining to the level of students under the Specialist Teacher’s charge. Provide care and instruction in compliance with those rules and regulations

 

Communicating with Staff

  • Responsible for reading or responding to emails within 48 hours
  • Responsible for checking email account, ensuring that the computer is not used when students are in the classroom unless it is used for instructional purposes
  • Communicate with Program Coordinator, Group Leaders, Assistant Group Leaders, Volunteers, and other staff in regards to student needs and other relevant information (e.g. notification of allergies or other medical needs, behavior supports, etc).
  • Follow the program schedule provided, report any scheduling problems to the Global Kids Program Manager in a timely fashion
  • Follow substitute procedures as outlined by the Global Kids Program Manager
  • Communicate any extreme or repeated behavioral or other camper issues to the Global Kids Program Manager
  • Communicate with Global Kids Coordinator, Manager at the beginning and end of your Global Kids shift in regards to program activities and student progress and/or behavior



Other

  • Report for work on a schedule outlined by Program Manager – report any lateness or absences to Global Kids Program Manager
  • Become familiar with the rules and regulations of The International School’s Global Kids Program as outlined in the Global Kids Handbook and work in compliance with those rules and regulations
  • Conduct oneself at all times in an appropriate and professional manner
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings
  • Report to the Global Kids Program Manager and Global Kids Program Coordinator
  • Carry out occasional additional duties as assigned by the Global Kids Program Manager and Global Kids Program Coordinator

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Passionate about working with children and the mission and values of the school and program

  • Attentive to details of daily schedules, children’s needs, and paperwork requirements
  • Self-starter, hard worker
  • Creative, friendly, and welcoming with children and families

  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds

 

Required Qualifications

  • Teaching Certification for specialty subject or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of experience working with PreK – 5th grade children, preferably in a school setting
  • 1-3 years experience teaching
  • Proficient in written and spoken English

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching the subject matter of the class being offered.
  • Comfortable in an international community with experience living and/or traveling overseas and studying other languages.

 

Training Requirement

  • Enrollment in Oregon’s Central Background Registry
  • Current certification in CPR/First Aid
  • Completion of the Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety (ICCHS) course offered through the Oregon Office of Child Care
  • Completion of Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) or similar course within the state of Oregon
  • 15 Hours of training per year, 8 of which must be in child development

 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:  

  • Capable of quickly traveling to multiple locations on school campus during all weather including up and down hills, lifting or otherwise carrying 40 pounds, traveling up/down flights of stairs, standing and sitting for long durations, typing for continuous hours on a computer keyboard, and reading
  • Able to stand physical demands of working with young children – sitting on the floor, bending over, etc.
